Gas Plant Shutdown
The BOC gases plant at Unanderra is a major producer of a variety of process gases. During May 2005 a major plant shutdown was planned and carried out to complete essential maintenance work.
Part of the work planned for the shutdown was to remove, test, repair and re-install over 60 valves varying from 1/2″ compressor relief valves to 10″ pilot operated pressure controls. CMA provided a complete test and repair service for all of these valves, and completed the work in 4 days.
Repairs varied from testing and resetting valves, to complete strip down, grind, clean, re-assemble and calibration. Approximately 50% of the valves when tested were found to require overhaul.
This project was successfully carried out by a combination of careful planning, management and anticipation of parts and consumables required, and scheduling of our entire workforce to work in shifts on our various test and repair facilities.
The last valve was returned 12 hours ahead of schedule, and no start-up delays due to faulty repair work was reported. All valves were tested and repaired to our most stringent heavy industry standards, and many of the valves were cleaned and certified for Oxygen use
